Davido, Runtown, Small Doctor tops the MTV Base list of Hottest Naija Tracks of 2017

The all year banger, “If” by David Adeleke, aka Davido has topped the MTV Base Roundtable hottest Naija tracks chart and has been selected as the hottest song of 2017.

Boasting of over 54 million views on youtube, “If” was produced by Tekno. The song spurred trends and memes on social media because of Davido’s jaw dropping claim of having “30 billion in his account”. After careful consideration and debate by the panelists, it was considered the song with the most buzz, impact and longevity.

Coming right behind Davido’s “If” at Number 2 and 3 are Small Doctor’s “Penalty” and Runtown’s “Mad Over You” respectively.

On the panel that decided the MTV Base Roundtable hottest Naija top 20 tracks for the year 2017 were:

MTV Base VJ, Ehiz Okoeguale, Universal Music Group Nigeria GM, Ezegozie Eze; Social Media Critic and influencer, Tosin Adeda; Nigerian DJ, Obi Ajuonuma; Digital Media Manager, MTV Base, Adetola Adekoya, Cool FM on-air personality/ Rapper, N6; Online Entertainment Editor, Pulse Nigeria, Joey Akan; and Beat FM On-air personalities- Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi and Dami Elebe.

The criteria for inclusion in this year’s selection was based on the songs been released no earlier than November 2016, and was weighed according to a range of criteria – from impact in the media, to level of buzz and longevity.

Other amazing songs that made the honorable mentions list but didn’t make it to the top 20 include; Falz-
“Wehdone Sir”, Wizkid- “Daddy Yo” , Reminisce - “Ponmile” , Seyi Shay-

A 46-year-old mother of two was on Friday, sentenced to six months prison and RM15,000 fine by the Magistrate’s Court in Malaysia after being found guilty of three counts of insulting Prophet Muhammad.

Magistrate Siti Hanum Md Sah made the decision after looking through evidence presented by the prosecutor and defense parties in the case.
She found that the defense had failed to raise reasonable doubt.

The accused, Tham Yut Mooi was charged with insulting the Prophet at 5.30pm on May 4 last year in the prayer hall of Abu Ubaidah mosque, Jalan Perpaduan in Taman Perpaduan Ulu Kinta.

She was accused of insulting Prophet Muhammad and was overheard by three individuals, Abdul Rahim Mat Diah, 53, Mohd Yunos Harun, 73 and Mohd Halim Buyong, 44, believed to be done to insult them.

She was charged under Section 298 of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of a maximum jail-time of one year or fine or both.

The prosecution was carried out by deputy public prosecutor Fadhli Ab Wahab while the accused was represented by lawyer WC Chiang.
Previously, Fadhli urged the court to mete out the sentence befitting the offense as it was a serious one that involved religious sensitivity, public interest and should not be committed by anyone.

He said the insults should not be uttered in front of not only Muslims but people of other faiths as Malaysians must respect each other’s religions.
Meanwhile, the lawyer of the accused pleaded with the court to give a light sentence as his client is a mother of two and has parents to care for.

The court requested for the sentence to run simultaneously on the day of charge, and Tham faces an additional three more months in prison if she fails to pay the fine.

The court allowed the prison sentence to be postponed until the period of appeal is completed with the condition that she must post bail of RM5,000 with a surety and her passport must be handed over to the court.

Singer, Burna boy who was declared wanted by the police over his alleged connection with the armed robbery attack carried out on Mr 2kay at Eko hotel has finally reported himself to the police.

According to a press statement released by the police PRO, Burna Boy reported to the police today, 15th December 2017. He was interrogated and then detained.

The pop musician, Damini Ogulu, a.k.a Burna boy, who was sought for in connection with the robbery attack on another popular musician, Mr. 2kay at Eko Hotel early last month, reported to the police today 15/12/2017 at about 1700 hours. He was subsequently arrested, interrogated and detained and would have his day in court on Monday 18/12/2017. The statment read.

Bad News: NCC Tells Globacom To Stop Glo Free Data Day

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has halted the plans of Globacom Nigeria to offer free data to all its subscribers on Friday, 11th August.

In a letter signed by Sunday Dare, NCC commissioner for stakeholder management, said the promotion is a clear departure from what was approved by the regulator.

Earlier, Glo had announced that eligible subscribers would enjoy as much as 200 megabytes of data for free to enjoy what it called the “ free data day”.

The regulator also summoned Gladys Talabi, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Globacom Nigeria, to a meeting at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

“Please refer to the commission’s letter dated 14th March, 2017 conveying approval for your Glo overload promotion. It has however come to our notice that Globacom Nigeria Ltd has been implementing the above regulatory approval in breach especially given your recent media campaign on the ‘Glo free data offer’, a clear departurre from terms and condition of the approval given for the Glo overload promotion,” the letter seen by TheCable read.

“Consequent upon the above, you are hereby directed to suspend implementation of the Glo overload promotion from your network with immediate effect."

You Can Now Share YouTube Videos Without Leaving The App

YouTube has released a new update to its app which now allows you share YouTube videos without leaving the app. This new feature is long-awaited as it makes sharing contents more easier. In other words YouTubers can "direct-message" any video you watch on the site to family and friends through private conversations.

Before this update, you had to copy and paste the link for YouTube videos into other messaging platforms; which is time consuming and not really fast as this new method. Right now, you can also continue the conversation you started, send emojis, reply to someone’s video with another video, and invite others to join the group chat.

HOW IT WORKS

You can view all your conversations in a new tab called “Shared” on the YouTube app. to start using it, simply invite your friends from your contacts through SMS or by sending them an invitetation link through a social network, email or messaging app.

The format is similar to Instagram’s direct message feature. If there are YouTube videos you want to send, simply tap on the arrow below the video and a list of contacts will show up. You can either send it directly to one person or send it to multiple people. You can create a group chat of up to 30 people. Also, you can include a message before sending YouTube videos, in the text box available underneath the list of people you are sending it to.

The new YouTube feature is also similar to Google Messenger, which was later rebranded as Android SMS. The app allows you to communicate with anyone using SMS and MMS, among others. You can send group texts along with pictures, audio messages and videos without having to leave the app. It’s clear what YouTube wants to achieve with this feature – the user’s attention is engaged on the platform, and the user gets to share without leaving the app.

Google Wanted To Buy Snapchat For $30 Billion

This reminds me of Davido's "IF" track where he shouted "30 Billion for the account ooo🎶". Well reports has it that Google wanted to buy Snapchat for $30 Billion.

It looks like Google and Facebook want to own and control virtually everything on the internet. Recall that Facebook acquired WhatsApp, Instagram and even went ahead to buy LinkedIn.

Now, Google, who owns almost everything in the internet including Gmail, Blogger, Adsense, Google Map, Search Console, Gcalender, Gboard, Allo, etc no now want to acquire Snapchat of all people. Hmmmm... Isokay.

Snapchat, officially called Snap Inc., filed for IPO early on in March of this year. The company went public and would now has the capital of the public to lend financial support. However, a report from Business Insider says that Google verbally discussed the acquisition of Snapchat with Snap Inc. CEO Evan Spiegel.

The offer was for $30 billion and the discussions happened far before the company filed for IPO: early 2016. Google’s offer was apparently still on the table even after Snap Inc. went public. Of course, Spiegel did not budge, he did not want to sell out. In fact, only he and Snap Inc. co-founder Bobby Murphy are the only ones who can make major decisions for the company so public backers don't have any say about it, even if they wanted to.

Even though Snap told Business Insider that “these rumors are false,” and Google declined to comment, this piece of news bumped Snap Inc.’s stock price by 2.3% today following weeks of steady decline.

Google would be an excellent parent company for Snapchat in the marketing front. Let’s face it, Snapchat’s curated and sponsored content sections could use a lot of improvement. Either way, Snap CEO Spiegel is the type of person who likes to call the shots and probably wouldn’t want to answer to someone else, particularly since Snapchat is his baby.

Still, Google’s relationship with Snapchat remains close. In fact, Google’s investment arm put money on Snapchat after it went public, and Snap (one of Google Cloud’s largest customers) has vowed to spend $2 billion on Google Cloud, which is the platform that Snapchat runs on.

Still, it would have been really cool to see a fusion of technologies between Snapchat’s spectacles and Google Glass. Snap’s AR technology would definitely be a great asset to Google’s development of Glass.

Facebook continues expanding and this time around it's reportedly working on a dedicated video chat device for use in the home.

The Facebook video chat device will come with a touchscreen measuring between 13" and 15" diagonally, and might run on Android OS.

FEATURES OF THE DEVICE

It will feature a wide-angle camera and AI-powered microphones and speakers. The device is said to be in testing at the moment, including "in people's homes", despite still being in the prototype phase. The large screen and "smart camera technology" are supposed to help far flung people feel like they're in the same room, aligning with CEO Mark Zuckerberg's mission of bringing people closer together through Facebook.

Facebook To Produce a Modular smartphone

Meanwhile, this video chat device is expected to be used mostly in the living room. One prototype has a thin, vertical stand that holds the display. For this product, Facebook is testing software that lets the camera automatically scan for people in its range and lock onto them. An example of this at work is the camera automatically zooming onto a painting that a child brought home from school to show a parent who's away on a business trip.

Also, the company is developing a 360-degree camera for the device, but this is apparently unlikely to be ready in time for the initial launch. Speaking of which, the video chat device could be officially unveiled during next spring's F8 developer conference. It should cost "a few hundred dollars" when it eventually becomes available.

Honestly, Facebook has risen beyond just a photo sharing and chatting app but spreading their tentacles into hardware and other ventures. Mark Zuckerberg, I salute you.

Meet the Man Who Married His Laptop - Chris Sevier

Chris Sevier says that if same-sex couples are able to get married and demand that Christian bakers make them wedding cakes, then he should be allowed to marry his laptop and demand a cake to celebrate the union between one man and one machine.

The self-identified “machinist” says he married his laptop in a ceremony in New Mexico, and now he has sued to demand that a Colorado baker — who is already in court after refusing to bake for a same-sex marriage — must be compelled to make cakes for him and his computer “bride.”

He also has filed a lawsuit demanding that Utah recognize his man-object marriage.
It’s the latest battlefront in an increasingly thorny area of law, after the U.S. Supreme Court in 2015 established a constitutional right to same-sex marriage.

While legal analysts said the case is a stretch, a judge in Utah has allowed part of that lawsuit to proceed, and analysts concede that Mr. Sevier’s claims get to the heart of how far the 2015 Obergefell ruling stretches when it comes to nontraditional unions.

If marriage based on self-asserted sex-based identity narratives is a ‘fundamental right,’ ‘individual right,’ ‘existing right,’ based on a ‘personal choice’ for homosexuals, then clearly it is also a ‘fundamental right,’ ‘individual right,’ ‘existing right,’ based on a ‘personal choice’ for polygamists, zoophiles and machinists.

Mr. Sevier and several self-identified polygamists said in their lawsuit against Masterpiece Cakeshop, the Colorado baker they are challenging.

Masterpiece Cakeshop baker Jack Phillips is slated for a day in the Supreme Court this year after justices said they would hear his appeal of a Colorado civil rights office that penalized him for refusing to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding.
