The Enchanted Forest of Cross River

In the ancient city of Abeokuta, Nigeria, there stands a magnificent rock formation known as the Olumo Rock. This rock, with its towering height and rugged beauty, is more than just a natural landmark. It is a guardian, a protector, and a silent witness to the city's rich history.

According to legend, the Olumo Rock was a refuge for the Egba people during the inter-tribal wars in the 19th century. The rock provided shelter and protection, and it was here that the Egbas found safety and solace.

Among the Egbas, there was a young warrior named Tunde. Tunde was brave and strong, with a heart full of courage. He was chosen by the elders to be the guardian of the Olumo Rock. Day and night, Tunde would stand guard, ensuring the safety of his people.

One night, a rival tribe launched a surprise attack on the Egbas. Tunde fought bravely, defending his people and the rock. But the enemies were too many, and Tunde was gravely wounded.

In his final moments, Tunde made a plea to the spirits of the rock. He asked them to protect his people and keep them safe. Moved by his bravery and selflessness, the spirits granted his wish. Tunde's spirit became one with the rock, and he became its eternal guardian.

From that day forward, the Olumo Rock stood unscathed, protecting the city of Abeokuta. The people lived in peace, and they remembered Tunde's sacrifice. His story was passed down from generation to generation, becoming a part of the city's folklore.

Today, the Olumo Rock stands as a symbol of resilience and bravery. It is a reminder of Tunde's sacrifice and the enduring spirit of the Egba people. And if you listen closely, you might just hear the whispers of Tunde, the guardian of the Olumo Rock.
